Today was the Irish National Cross Country Mountain Bike National Championships in Newry County Down at Tinkerhill Motocross track just outside the city of Newry on the edge of the Mourne Mountains. We are in the middle of a heat wave so it was really warm and dusty. I sprinted from the start and got away with the boy who beet my last week at the road nationals. we rode together for 2 laps and got a minute gap on 3rd place. There was then a steep technical climb at i was on the front keeping the pace high when 2nd place slipped and fell off i then knew that this was my chance and rode as hard as a could. I ended up winning by 13 seconds and even on the lap where he was chasing i still put 4 seconds into him.
Delighted to end the summer on a high and this gives my loads of confidence going into the MTB season next year hoping to retain the national jersey. Huge thanks to everyone who helped on this journey and it wouldn’t be possible without them.
