Round 4 of the NPS was taking place in Fermoy, Cork. After an early start due to the long journey to get to the race we arrived on Saturday afternoon. The rain was pouring down on Saturday as we got ready to head out for practice, this made the track very muddy and super challenging to get drip. Some sections of the course were even not ride able. I got my head around the course for Sundays race and had it dialed in after some practice laps on Saturday.
On Sunday morning i headed out for a practice lap to check the course hadn’t changed from yesterday. The track had dried out slightly but it hadn’t changed much and was still super muddy and challenging. The race got off to a good start and i took the lead then settling into the wheel for the long fire road and the first trail. I managed to hold the wheel for the first few sections of trail but i then started to loose contact. By the end of lap 1 i had lost the wheel and the rider leading had a good gap, too far for me to be able to close unless he had a problem. I kept my head down and dug in, i managed to hold the gap for the remaining 3 laps and came home in 2nd place. Not the greatest legs for me on the day but still happy to finish 2nd and get some very solid championship points on the table.
Overall not the best feeling and legs this weekend but that happens. The course didn’t suit me as much as i would of liked but still happy with 2nd. Now a few weeks off racing to train before the final round of the NPS on the 8th July in Bellurgan Park.
