Excited for a nice double weekend of racing with the Mick Beggan (Saturday) and the Waller Cup (Sunday) These are 2 big prestigious races on the Callander that always get a good turnout and a stacked field
On Saturday it was a very warm day for the Mick Beggan. The circuit was very good, it was on small back roads with a few climbs through the lap. I was attacking lots and trying to split the group and make a breakaway. I got into a few moves but none of them were able to stick and it came down to a bunch finish. I tried to attack within the last mile as I thought this was my best chance of winning. I gave it a very good go but I was caught with 400m to go and all the sprinters came past me. I finished in 9th
Today was a bigger and longer race, the Waller cup. I also had some teammates in the race today so we had a good chance. The race was filled with attacks but it was also very slow at times, nobody wanted to do work at the front. Lots of messing about in the group led to a few riders slipping off the front of the bunch and they somehow managed to stay away. the bunch was then sprinting for 3rd place and I finished inside the top 10. The race was frustrating as those riders shouldn’t of got off the bunch but lessons have been learned and notes have been noted for the next race. We will come back stronger and better…. A disappointing day for the VC Glendale Acdamey
A bit of a disappointment this weekend. A good opportunity to get some nice results but it just wasn’t to me although it was good to get some racing into the legs and will set me up well for the rest of the season. There is still lots more to come this year and I’m very excited to see what it holds.
