Today was the last round of the xc national points series in Mullaghmeen, Co. Westmeath. It was a really challenging course because of the conditions that we were facing as it was really wet and muddy, this made for a really slippy course.
I got off to a good start in 3rd as we hit the climb into the single track. I held my position for the first half a lap but I had a crash and was caught my 4th and 5th. I got back up and caught up to the riders in 3rd and 4th and overtook both of them. On the next lap on the single track technical climb my chain came off and it took me 30 seconds or more to get it back on. By this stage i had been caught my 3rd and 4th and I was now in 5th with a big gap to close. I had caught 4th on the last lap but on the final descent i made a slight mistake and he got a gap on me which left me finishing in 5th. Disappointed to finish the series with this result but it was just bad luck. Happy to finish 3rd overall in the series though.
A huge thanks to the Irish XC NPS, Cycling Ireland and all the host clubs for making the series possible!
