I had a great weekend a the Ràs Na nÒg in drogheda. This race is irelands largest youth stage race so I’m super happy to take part in it. The courses for all 3 races were great and all the roads were well marshalled and very safe so a huge thank you to Drogheda Wheelers.
Stage 1 on Saturday morning was a crit around a short 1 mile circuit. On the first corner of the race another rider came up the inside of me and knocked me into the fence, I was a bit shaken up but I got a lap out of the race so I could rejoin with the group I was with. I got back into that group with was the main group as 2 riders were up the road. Nothing much happened until the last few laps when multiple riders attacked but no one got away. It came down to a sprint and I led out the sprint well but came 5th.
Stage 2 was a road race on Saturday afternoon, the circuit was extremely hilly so it suited me well. Sadly half way around lap 1 of 3 there was a crash in the bunch and I couldn’t avoid it so I ended up onto of another rider. I got back up onto the bike straight away and started chasing. After 2 hard laps of chasing and working together with another strong rider. We got back into the main group with half a lap to go but I didn’t have the legs to do anything in the sprint. Super happy with how I rode in this stage though because the group had a minute gap and we closed it down.
Stage 3 was another road race on Sunday morning. This time it was flat so it was hard to get away. On the first lap the pace was high And the group split pretty quickly. There was around 15 of us in the main bunch and that was the way it stayed to the finish. I was on the wheel of a real fast sprinter coming into the sprint but when he kicked I couldn’t respond and finished somewhere in the bunch.
All round it was a decent weekend. I am happy with how I rode but luck just wasn’t with me on day 1 after getting caught up in them crashes but its racing and there is nothing you can do. Huge thanks to my sponsors as always the racing and travelling wouldn’t be possible without yous.
